This was a challenging project due to the Central London location. The site was very restricted for deliveries and storage which necessitated a temporary access system involving scissor lifts. The works included repairs to the concrete structure followed by the installation of an Aluminium overcladding system with fully integrated windows. All work was completed while the museum remained fully operational. The upper terraces have had a roof upgrade to improve thermal performance to meet or exceed current standards.
To commemorate the completion of this third phase of works, design build facades’ project team and Rosemary Parker of BPA (Technical Adviser to NHM), enjoyed a fantastic afternoon with Keith Jennings, Director of Estates, Projects and Masterplanning at Natural History Museum and the NHM team. A tour round the site to inspect the completed building was followed with lunch hosted by design build facades.
