The University of the West of England (UWE) is a public research university, located in and around Bristol. F Block is a 5 storey block with a student union shop and canteen on Level 1. Works comprised overcladding of F Block using design build facades aluminium rainscreen system, integrated with high-performance double glazed timber/ aluminium composite windows. The building was occupied throughout the build programme.

F Block is the first building to be overclad on the campus, with other blocks to potentially follow. As well as the visual upgrade there will be substantial reductions in heating energy consumption.
KEY OUTCOMES
- Building life extended by more than 60 years
- Heating energy consumption reduced by up to 80%
- Operational carbon emissions reduced by up to 80%
- Contemporary quality building – “looks like a new building”
- Capital payback in c.10 years from savings in heating energy alone
- Project progressed whilst the building was fully occupied with minimal disruption to students and staff.
A full size in-situ mock up was installed to demonstrate how the building would look once completed.
