HOW DO YOU GET A NEW MRI SCANNER WEIGHING SEVERAL TONNES INSTALLED ON THE FIRST FLOOR?

d+b facades were once again delighted to assist the hospital.

The exciting transformation of the Queens building, Bristol Royal Infirmary was completed in 2016. As with many buildings, internal refurbishment is often a rolling programme independent of the facade, but how do you get a new MRI scanner weighing several tonnes installed on the first floor years after the project was completed?

d+b facades were once again delighted to assist the hospital ensuring that this valuable piece of equipment could reach its desired location. Using a mobile scissor lift, the solution was to remove the facade exactly where the new scanner is to be installed. Now exposed, the existing building fabric and internal walls will be removed to create an opening for the scanner to safely pass through after which the rainscreen cladding will be carefully reinstated.
