The Boyd Orr Building at the University of Glasgow designed in 1964 by architects JL Gleave & Partners primarily as a general science building officially opened on 3 October 1972 and thus was in major need of modernisation and refurbishment.
Since December 2018 d+b facades have been working on a programme of work to refurbish the exterior of the Boyd Orr Building. The project entails carrying out essential repair work to the concrete shell of the building and attach approximately 2,500 A1 non-combustible aluminium panels, extending the lifespan of the building and improving the insulation. d+b facades are also replacing all the existing single-glazed windows with double-glazing, improving the building’s energy efficiency.
Work has been ongoing whilst the building has been in use with little disruption to students, staff and visitors.
Phase 1 is almost complete, phase 2 is underway and we will be starting phases 3 and 4 in the new year and we are on target to finish July 2020.
