Granville Road,
Barnet Homes
NON-COMBUSTIBLE
- Client: Barnet Homes
- Programme: April 2018 – October 2018
- Contract Value: £3.10m
- Project Duration: Contract Period 32 weeks, Actual Period 27 weeks
PROJECT SCOPE
Originally constructed in 1963, the 3 No x15 storey Granville Road Towers were overclad with ACM in 2010/11. Following concerns about defects and combustibility, the cladding was removed by October 2017.
Barnet Homes and Pellings (the Employer’s Agent) evaluated options for making good and appointed d+b facades to carry out stage 1, ‘survey and design’ work to develop re-cladding proposals. After detailed survey and testing of the existing, followed by drawings, calculations, further testing, provision of samples, prototypes and the obtaining of statutory approvals, d+b facades submitted their formal Contractors Proposals (CP’s) for the stage 2 ‘reinstatement works’.
These were accepted by Barnet Homes and works commenced late April 2018 under the constant scrutiny of the Employers Team. The new system uses only non-combustible materials together with full-fill mineral wool cavity barriers that meet today’s new standards.
David Hann, Assistant Director of Operations for Barnet Homes said:
“Barnet Homes has been delighted with the progress of the recladding works to date and looks forward to the project’s completion. d+b facades’ solutions orientated approach through the design stage, contract mobilisation and works has been most welcomed.
It has been a pleasure to work in partnership with d+b facades on these crucial works to ensure the safety and peace of mind of our residents.”
Ian Nunn, Senior Associate Building Surveyor, Pelling’s said:
“d+b have performed extremely well in delivering Barnet Homes’ requirements, whilst also being able to adapt their system accordingly in order to be compatible with the retained elements. We have found d+b to be very proactive in all aspects of the delivery, and they are willing and prepared to accommodate Barnet Homes’ changes and suggestions”.
